New Edelbrock Aluminum Head For The I-6

The word is out, Edelbrock is coming out with a new aluminum head for the I6 early 2015. Yes folks, save your pennies, and ditch those plans for putting in the door stopper 4.0L iron head. Edelbrock is going through the motions to get the California EO number so it will be 50 state smog legal. Not sure what it will cost, but check out the video of the introduction on YouTube by an Edelbrock rep. at the Vegas SEMA show. And yes, the rep. stated that it will drop onto the old AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .

Under square engine. the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l already has a high volumetric efficiency and doesn't need large valves and ports or lots of valve lift. A buddy and I have a long running argument over the 4.0 head swap. I say its the bump in compression ratio and you could achieve the same thing with a late model AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l head on the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . He says you get most of the advantage from the larger valves and ports. Either way, an aluminum head on a cast iron block can develop electrolysis between the two, and eat your head gasket. Especially on a vehicle that sits a long time.
