new from Tomah
Hello from Tomah, WI. I have a stock 1976 CJ5 bought for plowing my driveway. I just replaced the clutch and am having problems with the bell crank and/ or clutch itself. The new clutch kit came from Napa but had the diaphragm pressure plate instead of the three finger type. It came with its own throwout bearing but it is the same size as the original. When assembly was complete, the bell crank popped of and the pedal would not return.
I put in a new bell crank with all of the bushings, push rod, and adjusting rod. Everything looked great but the new bell crank popped off when I applied hand pressure to the clutch pedal while the Jeep was on the hoist.
The mounts seem good. I did have to replace broken mounting bolts for the tranny and crossmember, making it more secure than it was when I bought it. I don't see how returning the tranny to its original position could misalign anything.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bret
