I just replaced the leaking fuel pump on my AMC 304 v8 with Napa part M6736, which appeared exactly as the fuel pump I was replacing.

Now the Jeep won't start. If I pour fuel down the carb, it will fire up immediately until that fuel is burned off. After that, it just cranks and cranks and cranks....

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance..!!

Pull the fuel line off the carb and turn it over to confirm you are not getting fuel, If none, pull the line from the inlet of the pump and put it in a cup of fuel, turn the engine over and see if it picks it up from the cup.If you can pick up fuel from the cup I would say you are blocked or have an air leak in the fuel line upstream of the pump. I have found that sometimes you need to prime three of four times to get fuel to the carb. Just for the heck of it you should smell the oil to insure that you didn't get a pump with a bad diaphragm that pumped fuel into the crank case.
