I recently just installed a new oil pressure gauge, voltmeter, and tach in my CJ5 . All gauges are working properly but after about 15 min of drive time all the gauge windows begin to get discolored/foggy(best way I can describe it). After I finish driving and kill the engine the windows return to normal after a few minutes. Is this normal with new gauges or do I have an electrical problem? Thanks for any feedback

Sounds like water in the gauges, possibly it was a humid day when they were assembled. You could drill a small hole in the top of the gauge and let it evaporate out or leave it alone and possibly it will eventually dry out.

Thanks Torx. That was my thought considering how humid it is down here right now in the south. Hopefully it will work itself out. Thanks for the reply.

I had the same once, the reason was a very small cooling water leakage
where the heater hose goes into the manifold (V8).
Never appeared again, when this was fixed.

Pinkard, I live in Summerville, so I know about the humidity here in SC. It's just like that wonderful sweet iced tea that we all love here in the South. The inside of the gauge gets warmer than the outside of the gauge glass and condensation forms on the warm side of the glass.

This could be from the light inside the gauge causing the warmth, or just from our high humidity. My CJ7 speedo gauge glass will form moisture like that after about 10 minutes, and after about 30 minutes the gauge moisture will disappear.

Nothing to worry about, it's just one of the many nice things about living here in SC!

:chug:

The humidity/moisture is exactly what it was. I drove from Myrtle Beach to Aiken(250 miles) this morning at 6 o'clock when there was a lot of moisture in the air. The gauges instantly fogged up but as it got warmer on the way home the condensation burned off and had no problems the rest of the trip.

Got to love the south.
