I just bought a 1983 CJ7 which is in pretty good shape. I have done a few things already. I want to replace the oil gauge and main gauge as I have found them to be poorly functional and have traced the problem to the gauges themselves. What I need to know is what do I have to do to get the old gauges out and install the new one. Will I have to remove all the torx screws from the metal dash? Will that allow enough room to reach the back of the gauges? Will I have to removed the steering wheel? Thanks , Tom

Start with looking at John Strenk's New Gauge Page. Add a ground wire from the firewall to the gauge cluster as paint can break the ground connection there and with steel the conductivity gets weaker the farther electricity travels through it.
