Hey guys I'm thinking about taking my 5 to the next level and wanted to know if what I'm thinking sounds OK. I want 42" tires and thought if I go with a 5" body lift and some custom 8" shackles(of course I would box them) would this be a good combo for those tires? I still want good road maners so I was also gona use a triple steering stablizer and new shocks too, I'm also looking for better gas milage if possible so any sugestions?

42" on a CJ5 ? It's not 4/1 so I'm guessing your serious... :)

A 5" body lift would predicate so many linkage / connection problems that we couldn't even go in to in a single post.

8" shackles would change your camber so much that (if my numbers are correct) it would actually be reversed by several degrees.

42's on a CJ5 ? Not / never for me... :)

42 inch tires. cool
But I wouldn't do the 8" shackles or the 5" body lift.
I would get hefty axles such as Dana 60's and cut the fenders. The rear axle would have to be moved back since there is body mount and brace in front of the rear axles.

with that combo you can throw good mpg and good steering out the door

Don't forget after buying the axles you would need a SOA and a flip kit for the front - 42's get expensive QUICK! :)

Busa... You cannot equate the OP's question with that! It has rockwells... :)

FYI - No one is making fun, we just know that lifting a CJ5 such as you asked is pretty much a bad way to do it.

We work with the 'be safe' philosophy around here; and what you suggested is not safe. :)

If you would like to know how to get 42's under that CJ5 - we can tell you though. It won't be cheap, it will be safe though... Interested?

Good point. Rockwells are overkill for 42" tires (and almost any other CJ5 ) but you are still going to need much bigger axles. 9 inch fords or Dana 60s.
How about this:

Thanks guys thats some good feedback. I also forgot to say I want to keep it stock looking as much as possible so that one with the 2 big boys won't work. :D

SOA's on different axles - That thing looks great!

Umm Stock looking and 42" tires really don't go together. The engineering required to mount that size tire and be anything but a mall crawler requires changes to everything, including the body.
Think "throw most everything away but the body and replace it. then modify the body to fit".

Hey Old Dog are those your buds rides in that link? Wondering if you could hook me up with this guy for some engineering?

Don't even think about getting tires that big without much bigger axles but I like this idea. You must keep it wide and low. And with a CJ5 I really think you should move the rear axle back. That will mean your gas tank will end up in the cab.
How about this:

That's 44" in the above pic.
I think 37" or 39" would be the biggest you should go on a CJ5

I thought the jeep on page 2 would be more you, but now that you want to stay stock looking I'm not sure anybody I know can help. :D
