I just purchased a mostly stock 1979 CJ7 with a AMC 304 AMC engine. It is running a little rough. I have been advised to install a HEI igintion. I found a new one on ebay for $70 (includes shipping). Any advice from members here? This is my first post.

Ebay dizzys can be bad news. Often the gear on the bottom is the wrong material, which chews up your internals.

A better gear is 50$ more. Sometimes you can reuse the one off of your old dizzy.

Welcome from Missouri. I would try a complete tune up and then see how it runs. My 73 CJ5 had the AMC 304 and after a complete tune up it ran great.

I know the vacuum advance diaphragm is failing, I guess with an HEI ignition that will be replaced. I am planning to have all the belts and hoses replaced. 68K original miles.
