Keep the filters clean, and flush the pond about once a month, KOI (goldfish) are nasty they keep the ammonia content of the water pretty high which kills, snails, crabs, frogs, etc. I had a nice pond but got tired of the maint. I wanted to spend time working on other things. So I sold the fish drained the pond and now use it as my RC crawler rock crawling course, LOL. I bought the wife wusthof knives in exchange, LOL.

Looks nice!

It's a little over 1,000 gallons, so flushing it out is kind of not an option. I bought a complete biological pond kit that has a system built in that will support the proper bacteria needed to break down the waste from the Koi. It will also reduce algae growth, and works with the pond plants to keep the water clean. The bacteria will keep the ammonia at bay....we'll see....I went to see another pond like this one that was on It's 3rd year. The owner said that he never drained it, and only cleaned the bio falls scrubbers once a year, and emptied the skimmer screen twice a week. His pond was crystal clear, and I sure as hell hope mine will be too!!

So what happens mid-December when your pond starts to freeze, do you have to move the fish in doors?

I did a lot of yard work too, but nothing quite that big... It looks good Dave.

If you have a minimum of 2' of water, the Koi will over winter right in the pond. All you have to do is keep an air hole open for them.

Wintering in the pond is the ticket, as long as it doesn't freeze solid.
I added a warmer during the winter months to kinda help keep things un-frozen.

My cleaning issues stemed from the terrible winds that constantly blew other :dung: in the pond. It's not bad if things aren't constantly being blow in the pond, leafs, neighbors trash, etc.

I used to build these ponds about 15 years ago.

It was'nt too bad to do. It's a post and beam house, so It's pretty bomb proof. My brother is an electrical contractor, one of my buddies is a plumbing contractor, and I'm a home improvement contractor, so everything went pretty smooth. I just need to learn WHEN to put down the friggin hammer.:(

This looks really cool. I beter not show these pictures to my wife or she will want one too! All kidding aside I wouldn't really mind putting one in at our house. Enjoy!
