Trust in my current AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is fading. I'm looking for suggestions for replacement. One of the head bolts is leaking coolant and the PO rebuilt this motor for 91+. I've began researching on line and found several sites. Not looking to do a 4.0 conversion. But, maybe stroking IF original manifolds can be used. Anyone?

A couple of the head bolts go into the water jacket. If you don't use a thread sealer of some type they WILL leak.
Have you tried re-torquing the bolt.
What else worries you about this engine. Does it pas SMOG?
My AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is 30+ years old and have never been inside other that to reseal the valve cover a couple of times.

I'm told the engine was rebuilt and ran good the first 4 or 5 years. I've already replace the timing chain, oil pump, and have had oil pressure issues. Just don't trust it anymore. Looking to have a trust worthy jeep behind me when I do my traveling, both out back and cross country. I've rebuilt several engines in the past, this time I just want to take the easy way out.:notworthy:

Thanks for the info. I'll give them a call.

Not sure I understand what you mean by this? A budget Stroker? If so, that means you use the 4.0 block, header and manifolds with AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l internals.

Do so-I talked to the owner, he said you have to pull the engine and remove accessories(alt, P/S etc).
I've seen his work, and he is where I will go when the time comes......
