So what is the best route to go? Anyone have an idea what the normal price is to have seats reupholstered? I went to a few shops and all had various prices from 600 to 2000 so what is the normal price range to re-do my high back seats. I was lucky enough to have the original nutmeg high backs in my Loredo and a busted random black vinyl rear bench and wanted to keep them original nutmeg color but if its going to cost 1000 I might have to consider buying some Smittybuilt or Best Top seats as they range from only 139-AMC 150 per seat. Which route would you guys go?

IIRC 84 would have the Honey seats , a bit lighter than Nutmeg. Either one of those Laredo seat colors is going to cost high 3 digit to 4 digit numbers for a nice set. The Bestop seats aren't very comfortable IMHO.

I would look at get'n your OEM seats redone.
I'm still run'n mine. I did rebuild the seat frame about ten yrs ago.
Can you post pictures so we can see what your talk'n about?

I went with Smittybuilt. I really like them. More comfortable than the original high backs and they hole me in the seat better.

:eek::eek: Dang, that's a sharp jeep! I'm envious...:D:D......nice seats as well!
:chug:

Thanks for the compliments. The seats are great. Just don't get denim. My friend has them and they wore fast. No rips or anything, just look old and beat faster. Mine look brand new. The rear is a fold and tumble from rugged ridge. Comes out in second.

I have Bestop seats that came in my 7, they suck IMO.

I also have the Smittybilt on the front. These seats are comfortable, and the price was right. The only thing I don't like much is that the stitching didn't perfectly line up. Well it is noticeable only if you look closely. For the backseat, I have the Bestop Trailmax.

so bringing this thread back to life as I'm getting ready to order some seats. I have narrowed it down to the Rugged Ridge Nutmeg bucket seats or the Smittybilt Spice bucket seats.. both are about 140 a piece and 170 for the matching rear seat.. is one any better than the other as far as quality and comfort?

Smitty Seat
Smittybilt Standard Front Bucket Seat - Spice Denim - SB-44917

Rugged Ridge Seat
Rugged Ridge Front Standard High Back Bucket Seat, Non-Reclining - Nutmeg - 13401.07

I talked to Morris customer support they stated both seats bolt on to the original brackets so no need to buy any other additional stuff for the seats..2 bucket seats and a rear seat was going to come out to about $440.00 which is what it would cost to reupholster just one bucket seat if I went that route..

The seat you picked out are not adjustable for reclining. I bought a pair of the Smitty-Built a few years back because of the price. :) The are good seats, have held up to wear, but I should have spent the money and got an adjustable seat. :( Something to think about before you buy.

There are independent shops that will HOOK those seats up. Look around first. Here in Georgia I know guys that will do those seats in exact material , something better , or whatever you want. I've seen most vehicle seats go around $200 to $400 a seat . I have the bestop seats (mid range) they're better than what I had but I will eventually buy a better Grade. You may find yourself spending about the same.

Mastercraft are expensive but you get what you pay for. I don't want to replace mine again. Never had a more comfortable seat for the trail. I got the covers as well to protect my investment. I've gone the the reupholstering route and they hung in there for a few years but then I was looking again.

If you plan on keeping your CJ for a long time save your butt . . :D
