Good morning all ! Ok I have the CJ back finally with new G2 one piece axles and 3.73 gears. I am running 31” BFG’s and as ya’ll know the speedometer is like, WAY off. I have a new speedo gear on the way so here is my question:

How difficult really, is it to swap this in ?

From what I have seen and read on line it appears simple. I have a Dana 300 with the long tail. So just undo the lock bolt and retainer, pop out the housing, remove the old gear, insert the new gear.

What about “clocking” the new gear to match up with markings on the housing ?

Then pop it back in ?

Thanks

I have switched out a few speedo gears and it sounds like you have described it pretty correct. Once I switched gears and the speedo did not work, so I just took it out, rotated it and had good results. You might find a few tips by doing an internet search.

OP-You're on the 'rite' track.

Your will do well, just unbolt the small housing, pull off the old gear and replace... Good to go!
