Possible 1980 CJ
Hello All
New to the CJ7s and I always wanted one growing up. So I now have an opportunity to own one. It's an 1980 CJ7 with a AMC 304 and automatic Transmission . It is currently setup for trails, 3 inch body lift, 40 inch tires and the leaf springs have been removed and coilovers have been installed. It also has dual exhaust, mild cam and Transmission work. The body upgrades are poison spider fenders and corner guards. I am not into trail riding and would only drive the jeep around town and maybe a 2.5 hour drive to the jersey shore. Do you think the jeep with its trail setup be fine for me to cruise around town and long distance?

Thanks
Ryan

My personal opinion is that it does sound kind of dangerous since you are planning on taking it on the road. For example how does that thing stop when an emergency arises with those tires unless the brake system is well set up for it. That body lift does sound pretty radical also. A suspension like that does require a quality installation too.

If you want a CJ7 for road use, walk away from this one. It is simply too radical for safe road use. Besides it would be a miserable thing to climb in and out of.

I'm in agreement with the other guys. My 85' CJ7 came with 33s and I just bought 31s to replace them because of all the road driving I do. I love the 31s in comparison to the 33s. I cannot imagine 40s for a 2 1/2 hr drive. If you keep your eyes and ears open, I'm sure you can find one that is not as modified for your use(probably less expensive as well).
