Members CJs New to Jeep-cj.com
Hi. New to this forum. Joined because you can never have too many information resources (just need a good filter). I've had a few CJs, a Matkins framed, 4.3 CPI Vortec, SM465 1952 M38 project that never got finished, and a few XJs. No Jeep DD anymore. I sold a pretty decent (for the Northeast) 76 CJ7 Renegade (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , close ratio T-18 ) and the M38 to help my daughters with cars. Once they finished college my wife gave me the go-ahead to replace 76.
After looking for 18 months at over 100 CJs (3As, 3Bs, 5s, 6s, 7s, and CJ8s) of various conditions I finally found a replacement. Never registered or driven in the Northeast. A California native so very minimal rust. TMU (odometer doesn't work). AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Weak T-5 with worn synchros, 3.31 TT AMC20 rear. It ran like a mid 80s AMC so it's got a cheap amazon MC2100 just so I can drive it while I put together a Vortec 4800/AX15. Thought about a Golen 4.6 but the price is too high (if you ask me). I'll finish the entire LS swap for about half the cost of the Golen/T-5 rebuild. Bought a 1980 Laredo with a AMC 304 /T-176 , but it was too far gone to use (rodents nested on engine for decades, engine was seized and I had to cut the timing cover off) and the T-176 had a bad cluster gear. It just didn't make economical sense for (maybe) a 200HP leaker.
BDS 2.5" lift, 32X11.5s, Moser 1pc axles so far.
