I need some advice about tightening up the screws that came with my junkyard visors. They hold, but are just stripped out and won't tighten down at the end. I was thinking thread lock, but was hoping someone might have a better idea that will work better than my idea. I don't even know if my idea will work.

Now, the problem I didn't know was a problem until I installed my visors, how can I move my rearview mirror? The PO installed it about three inches to the drivers side from where it should have been installed. I know how to mount one, but have no clue how to get the little piece to come off the windshield without it just falling off first.

I guess if I had to, I could just glue a new mount up there and have the other mount still attached and just hidden by the mirror.

Thanks,
Coach

i have an 80 CJ5 , so dont know if there was a change in the visors or not. are you talking about the screws to the window frame? if so, you can try plumbers tape on the threads or just go to the next screw size up. my visors have screws at each end of the visors that bolt to the window frame

oh, forgot, about the rear view mirror. whatever you do, dont try to pull the part from the windshield. if you do, youll proly crack the windshield. i could never get mine to stay on even though ive put a many in other vehicles before. i just took the part of the mirror that slides over the part on the windshield and drilled a tiny hole thru it. then i just screwed it into the window frame between the visors...walaa, wont fall off!!

Try using a riv-nut. They work great and are stronger than the sheetmetal screw.

Menards and Harbor Freight sells kits with aluminum rivets.

It's close enough, I thinkt the plumbers tape just might do it. It isn't super tight now, but it didn't loosen up on the drive today.

I think you might be right on the technique of just mounting it to the frame. I really want to get it centered, since I drive into the rising and setting sun each day on my way to and from work. But, it won't be a problem the rest of the week, since I have two issues to figure out this coming weekend. Nothing like a CJ to keep you on your toes with repairs.

Thanks,

On the visors, I would go one screw size up. If the screw is then too big for the visor hole, just drill it out the tiny bit more to whatever size the screw is.

As for the rear view... you might wanna try heat or a solvent. I'm not sure if it'll work. Try the heat first so the solvent doesn't explode... I'd take the mirror off then apply heat to the bracket and try and slip a piece of dental floss behind it. If that doesn't work, try paint thinner, turpentine, or some kind of epoxy softener with the floss. If it doesn't work, at least the floss won't damage the window.

Another option is to call a window replacement company and ask them how they get the mirrors off..... they should tell you.

Hope this helps!
