1978 CJ 7 As delivered with 12400 miles. New battery, top, and spark plug wires, and an Earl Schieb in 1995. Zero options except for power steering. Still driving on original tires, brakes, shocks, everything.
My new CJ7 is a base model with 12400 original miles. I just bought off c-list a 1995 wrangler back seat with brackets. My problem is there are only three holes in the rear floor of my CJ7 . Two untapped holes with nuts under body ( one on each side), and one centered hole untapped for the the rear of the seat. There not any other underbody nuts for the front of the seat, but there are two more outboard nuts for the rear, but the floor pan has not been drilled to expose these rear nuts. The seat I bought needs two holes for each front bracket, and the rear is just three rubber bumpers that contact the floor. Any suggestions on what I might do for both the seat mount and seat belts? The three rear nuts are all located in a transverse brace for the floor and my roll bar has no padding or seat belt holes/braces. Thanks, Bill

My suggestion is easy, start drilling if you want to install a back seat. Most guys take the seat out to install tool and spare part boxes. My rig came with the fold and tumble seat that had 11 holes in the bed.

You did not mention the side brackets. Yj rear seats are fold and tumble and require a catch bracket on either side wheel well to hold the seat down. Also the seatbelts attach to the rear floor flange that is the part the rubber bumpers attach to that is why you need the side catches. Otherwise when said jeep hits something the rear seat and it's occupants all flip forward. ... Weeeeee!

Good info thanks. I plan to attach the seat belts to the existing weld nuts on the floor cross member. The seat will just rest on the rubber bumpers at the rear. The seat belts bolted to the floor will keep the occupants restrained and thus the seat as well. I don't have the side brackets and really don't want to drill any more holes than I have to. At this point it will just be two new holes at the the front to match the four needed for the front brackets, and the two outboard seat belt holes to locate the nuts that are under the undrilled floor pan.
