I added p/b to my 77 CJ5 , installed an 82 cj pwr. brk. booster, 79 g. cherokee master - Good brk. fluid flow but will not build pressure - tried a 72 LeMans master, - flushed brakes, no air - still very little to no pedal - any ideas??
Brake bleeding basics; Do not let MS reservoir get too low, keep toped off. Press down on pedal and open bleed valve on wheel cylinder allowing fluid and air to escape, while pedal is down close bleed valve and then release pedal pressure. repeat this over untill no more air is present. Start bleeding at furthest wheel from ms, usually the rr wheel.
Sorry if this sounds to basic but that's usually all it takes. Good luck.
as long as your pushrod length is ok, it's really only a matter of bleeding them properly. ANY air in the lines is going to feel like there's no pressure. You could try a gravity bleed, but on top of being messy - I have yet to see it work all that well. However, in your case, it might solidify the pedal enough to do some actual bleeding.
Did you bleed your MS before installing it?
Take MS and fill with fluid.
Make a nipple fitting by flaring a line fitting onto about 2" of brake line.
Use rubber hose from fittings back into reservoir.
Secure hoses in reservoir and pump the pushrod slowly by hand.
The hoses should bubble until all the air is expelled.
Try and keep the hose ends submerged in fluid.
Keep pumping until all the air is out.
Tighten Fittings until install.
remove fitting and replace with line fitting.
If you're not familiar with a gravity bleed:
FILL brake MS reservoir to the top!
Open all four wheel fittings.
Allow all to drain into waste cans. - all should be dripping moderately fast.
Make sure to refill the reservoir as it depletes.
Use at least 1 can of brake fluid.
Close all fittings
This is also good when flushing old brake fluid out as all the deposits will sink.
