75 Jeep CJ5, 4.2L Straight 6, Dana 44 & 30? T30 TC? 3 Speed,
No turn signals anywhere!
I have brake lights

Pulled T/S fuse, turned ignition switch on and probed with test light where T/S fuse goes and get NO power. Same goes for Gauges and ac fuse spots.

Where does the power for the T/S fuse come from?
I do have a Chilton wiring diagram but am not able to figure it out.

Would it have anything to do with the ignition switch?

On the 73, power for the fuse comes from the iginition switch. Since you have several issues, I would say the ignition switch is the most likley culprit. Can you post the diagram? I would be happy to take a look to see if there are any other possibilities, but my $$$ is on the ignition switch....

My 73 doesnt even have a fuse box. Misc. fuses here and there.

But ya, there are several wires that leave the ign switch that power everything up. I think you guys are on the right track, but it is a jeep. I think they all came wired different:rolleyes:

I re wired it with EZ wiring's kit, so the brakes and parking were easy once I sat down and thought about it but I must have something somewhere going wrong because I had a blown fuse in the turn signal spot but am not getting any power to there either.
 
Has it worked at all since the re-wire? :wtf: If yes, ignition switch is still the most likely culprit. If not, you're gonna need to check that the circuit is wired properly. Good luck!

I have a bunch of schematics I'm just horrible at reading them...The signal arm is new also...I'm assuming they worked at one point cause I had a blown fuse...Is there any other way I could give it power? or Do I have to go that route?
 
If it's wired similiar to the wiring diagram above, the power for the fuse comes straight out the the ignition switch. From the fuse, follow the wire and see if it comes from the ignition switch. If it does, disconnect the wire, turn the key on and check for power at the ignition switch. If no power, you will see the terminal on the switch marked BAT. This should have 12v. If so (and it will if the vehicle runs), replace the ignition switch.

Well I suppose you could power the turn signals so they work all the time, but you cant do that with the gauges/cluster or you'll kill the batt.

I had to stare at that thing for 5 min to just follow the turn signal wiring.

Print it out if you can and follow the lines with your finger or color code them with pens so you can see whats going on.

You may be able to find a diagram with just certain circuits on there, but the one I posted is the best I could find.

Im not sure how your ign switch is mounted, but it probably has a screw ring from the front. Remove the switch so it hangs down so you can look at it and follow the wire to your ts fuse. You should be getting power at one or two spots on the switch with the key off. Thats power coming in. Turn the key on and probe the spot where the wire to the fuse goes.

Thank Y'all. I will check it out and see what I find, Thanks for the highlight lol. Everything is already hanging down on my dash and not connected to the dash yet because of the new wiring harness. I might just go buy a new ignition switch cause the one I have right now is as old as a dinosaur so very well that could be the problem.

At least then I know everything is new and supposed to be working right...I have a thought I have a master kill switch already wired up on my Jeep so I could go ahead and make my turn signal switch live 24/7 with the switch on so it wont drain my battery right? I mean that's the last resort if it came to that.
 
Well you could run a wire straight from the battery to the turn signal fuse. Until you close the circuit (engage turn signal) there will not be a draw. Your signals will just work with the key off.

Don't you have some other things not working as well; gauges?

I think you can figure this out. The ignition switch is your master kill switch. I think it would be harder to run power to a new switch and then to those items.

I would definitely just try a new ign. switch before that.

Power comes from batt to ign switch and goes straight to those items. So its an open/unhooked wire/circuit or the ign. switch.

Lol, I figured it out it was one wire on the wrong side of the ignition switch, So now I have power and I have turn signals YAY!!!!!!!!

Now all I need to do is figure out how to wire the lights for the gauges and all the grounds for the gauges ehhh I hate wiring.

Do all my gauges Have to be grounded? Volt, Oil, Speedometer w/ gas and temp? is there a way I can ground them all together? What about my gauge lights anyway to wire them all together?

So I can understand how the dash would ground the speedometer because of the nuts that hold it to the dash but what about the volt meter & oil pressure gauge? So what about the gauge lights do I just run a wire straight from the light switch to the gauges.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. They all have some sort of metal part that makes contact with the dash I believe. If you are in doubt if they are grounding properly, jump a wire to a good known ground point. Makes trouble shooting easier that way.:chug:
