So I'm sitting in the drive thru and my CJ just stops running. Period. I tried gas, starting fluid and a new coil. Nothing. No spark.

Where should I start now...or just Team Rush it now and know it's covered? If I do Team Rush it, what's the total bill going to look like?

Sounds like it may be the ignition control module, (ICM). Its the one on the drivers fender down low, gray ittle heatsink box. The nutter eliminates the engine control module (ECM) that is under the glove box.

You can take the ICM to Oreilly's or Auto Zone or somewhere similar and most have the test for it. To eliminate the ICM you would need to switch to the HEI ignition.

So I would have this on a '77? I'll check and see.

X2 on the ICM them suckers just quit with no warning. I usually carry a spare one. I get them from my local pick and pull off of FSJ's for a few bucks and take them to VatoZone and have them tested before I keep em in the rig for that most inconveinient moment that it decides to quit.

I have nothing on that side. I have a gold box on the pass side.

Okay - I replaced the ICM and it runs...but not well AT ALL. Idle's rough and runs rougher with no power. Could it be a bad ICM or do I have 2 problems that appeared at the same time?

Since that year does not have ECM is could be your coil is weak or was affected by ICM. Stick a screwdriver in the end of the plug coming off and hold near a ground to see if it is getting a good strong spark when the key is turned.

My ECM died on the trail a few weeks ago and I came to a deat stop. I did the qucik nutter bypass but had to get a ride to town to grap a coil as I was only getting spark after key was let off. Once I chenged it ran and runs perfect and I am just leaving it bypassed for now until I see If I need to pass when I do tags late next year.

A coil is like $19, I was pis sed that I had used my spare as I had a spare ICM to swap in and that's how I ended up knowing it was coil and computer. IMO, It won't hurt to try and have that extra coil if not.

Well I tried 2 other coils and it would not run AT ALL. Odd?
Plugged the old nasty coil back in and it ran bad again. SO I bought another new ICM and that was the problem - bad/new ICM.

So I'm taking the bad one back and now I'll have a spare on-hand (after it's tested).

I did replace the plugs to in the middle of all this but they made no difference whatsoever, but now I know how old they are.:)

HA! Nice work man. Gotta love getting new/bad parts like that.
