I have a 1983 CJ7 jeep, when I brought it ,the old carb was junk, and
it had set for about a year. I got it running but had to put another carb
on it, it ran pretty good, but my problem is after it set for a few days
I can't get gas to the fuel pump. I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter,
carb ( used ) , even with priming carb it won't get fuel. Just to be sure
I've put more gas into the tank. Now thinking maybe the pickup in tank
is bad?, any Idea's ? thanks Mike

Your sending unit will come out, you just rotate the retainer ring. I thought you had it out when you drained the tank.

I would have to figure the pick up screen was the problem, try blowing in the fuel line and see if there is resistance, if nothing else you will blow it clear and it will work for a while. then you will know it is the screen.

Not fun but you probably will need to drop your tank, remove the pick-up/sending unit, clean out tank, disconnect fuel line from pump, blow compressed air threw fuel line, reinstall with new screen on pick-up or replace pick-up unit and you should be good for another 27 years.

FYI the the pick-up has a plastic screen on the end to keep debris out of the fuel line and mine was disintegrated when I removed it.

Well I did not know that and it looked like there was a nice weld around the input and output holes of my tank, it just looked like a big steel box that no one was getting into :p so i didnt.
