So I bought my CJ5 a few weeks ago and have taken it out a few times. I've heard some clanking around and couldn’t for the life of me figure out what it was until I really looked and saw that my fenders were bouncing off of my frame. Then I went a step further and noticed that my grill and radiator are not attached to anything but my fenders, and the only thing holding it all together are the 8 bolts from the fenders to the tub (4 on each side and all fiberglass but the hood and grill). Anyone have any ideas on an easy fix for this???

Hmmm.... Per the original factory install you have 4 bolts on each side and about 4 tube braces between fenders and firewall and 1 body mount under the grille. Sounds like your body mount is missing:cool:

Well I guess I forgot to mention that I have a 74 CJ5 with a 76 CJ5 tub. I keep finding differnt things that just are not connected correctly, and this is a big one. I figures that I'm missing some mounts but can anyone let me know what I need or I was really thinking of making up my own bracket to at least connect the grill to the frame.

the pictures below are a 54 but will give you a Idea of what is missing

The first one is the inner fender connecting to frame

Second is how grill attaches to frame
dddd-Copy.webpRemember mines a 54 your mounts will be a little different but they are similar

I have what I think is a 4 in lift and the fenders are fiberglass. The fenders don’t even come close to the frame as shown in the pic, and I looked at the grill and radiator and saw that there looks to be a spot for a long screw with a busing but there is nothing there and I can’t seem to find anything to replace it.

I have fiberglass fenders and tub. I'm not using the support rods from the tub to the grill.

The grill should have a single long bolt that goes up through a hole in the middle of the frame, through a rubber bushing, and into a threaded nut/plate that's contained in the bottom of the grill. That is unless they radically changed the grill after 1974. If the grill was rusted out on the bottom, it might be missing the threaded plate that acts as a nut. If so improvise.

Just get a long bolt, find a body mount bushing, or even an old hocky puck with a hole drilled through the middle would do, and put her together.
