Okay. My steering box has flare for the pressure hose connections on both the pump and gear box side and o-ring for both ends. Is this normal? Of course the replacement is an o-ring style. Can it be modded properly using a flaring tube?

Re: Power steering pressure hose

Flaring TOOL. is what I meant.

Re: Power steering pressure hose

Actually, let me rephrase that. The return line hose has an o-ring connection on the gearbox end. And the pressure port doesn't look like a flare fitting inside. However, the pressure hose has flared ends and there was no leakage from either connection. So, I think I answered my own question. But, how do you be sure you get a hose with flared ends?

Re: Power steering pressure hose

O ring connections are metric and flared are English. Depends on the year for the correct hose.

Since this is a return line, you can just use your old fittings and use low pressure hose.

I guess I need to clarify my problem/question. The return line on my steering is fine. However it is an o-ring fitting at the gearbox, and measures as metric. The pressure port however, appears to be SAE as a metric fitting will not go in it. So my question is, is this the normal setup? SAE for pressure even though the return is metric? And is there a way to be sure you get an SAE/flare. I ordered for a 1980 and ended up with a Metric/O-ring pressure hose. Help?!
