Hey guys!

On my '79 CJ7 I have what looks like a 5/8" to 3/4" diameter formed crossmember that bolts underneath the motor mounts (actually uses one of the motor mount bolts on each side) on the jeep that has the AMC 304 V8. It is directly under the oil pan.

This crossmember is not on the I6 jeep I have. Is it supposed to be?
I don't think it is unless it is mounted a different way as it appears the oil pan will interfere with it's fitment.

Just wondering, because if it's supposed to be there, I need to find one and put it back since the PO has removed it. Don't want to make my frame weak or anything. If it's not there on I6 jeeps then I won't worry about it.

Would someone please take a look under their I6 CJ7 ? I sure would appreciate it!:notworthy:

I have one that has it and one that doesnt. Ive had Cj-5s , Cj-7s and a Scrambler that didnt have it either no matter if they were 6 or 8 cyl. The Limited I have is the first one I had that has one.

My 81cj8 has it. It prevents frame spread due to the weight and torque of the engine.

Great question. My 4 cylinder had it, but I did not put in with the 360. Should I? Should All be the same.

This is my 79 CJ7 with the I6. No crossmember. Rod

Thanks guys! I sure appreciate the help!:)
Interestingly enough, I had a chance to fool around with the cj this weekend and the cross-member will fit either one. As you know, there are 4 bolts holding the motor mounts onto the frame on each side- 2 upper, 2 lower. With the v8, the cross-member attaches to the 2 rear lower bolts. With the I6, it attaches to the 2 front lower bolts. I tried it out. It fits just fine.:D

I don't know how much difference it makes, but I FEEL better having it back in there.

Man, ya gotta love wrenching on a CJ. These things are simple! But then again, I believe the best things in life are.;)

Thanks again!
