Thought I would start a list of what everyone considers their essential off-road gear. You know, the stuff everyone should have when they go out.

I try and take everything but the kitchen sink but that is not always possible...

I consider the #1 item that everyone should have is a good fire extinguisher.

Lest all add to the list (you can post more then one item).

1] Good 1st Aid Kit (and check it periodically to make sure everything is still there and good)

2] Spare tire and jack.

I carry spare u-joints, spare axles, any tools I think I might need and a varity of bolts and nuts. Oh and a co2 tank for air, and a chainsaw. And don't forget extra fusses.
And of course food and water and a firearm.:D

A CB radio, First Aid kit (I include a mattress needle and 2, 4, 6 lbs fishing line), small mechanic tool set, hammer, screw drivers, crecent wrench, pliers, knife. Duct tape, electrical tape, a bike inner tube and various hose clamps.
Crank type flashlight with extra bulbs. A Magnesium Fire Starter, Water and food (MRE). Emergency blanket (army wool). A fold-up shovel (army). Alot of my supplies are from army surplus, cableas, basspro shop, etc. I'll pack cloths for the area I'm heading, wet, cold, etc. extra socks and wear hiking boots. Also a bite or sting kit. Include medicine in the first aid kit.

BTW this is the minimum, not including spare parts for the jeep.

Most of the time, another rig with a properly prepared driver, equipped with all the stuff I don't bring along!

TOILET PAPER

Tree bark hurts:laugh:

A good tarp, enough tools to get the basic job done
shot cord, a few piece's of tin foil in a ziploc, zipties, tape
a good knife and saw and of coarse a good fire starter

hilift jack
tow strap
1 gallon extra water
blanket and a jacket
fire ext
first aid kit
cb and 2 meter radio
tow points on Jeep
u joints
basic mechanics tool kit
on board air system
energy bars, just in case you are out late and need something to munch on
fuses, oil, brake fliud
topo map of area
Cuban cigar
matches
Duct tape and tie wire
flashlight and loud whistle
Tire patch set
Pint of adult beverage incase you need to spend the night

OK -Besides my first post.

I always have an extensive assortment of tools (yes the box weighs a ton).
U-Joints front and rear.
Spare radiator hose.
Several feet of assorted heater hose diameters.
Several feet of assorted wire gauges and corresponding butt / quick connectors.
All kinds of fuses.
A heavy duty tire patch and plug kit.
Tire sealant.
Brake fluid.
Trany fluid
Oil.
A tie rod end.
J-B Weld and quick epoxy.

Depending on where I'm going,

Jerry cans of water and fuel.

There is much more but this is a start...

Heck, I thought I was quite prepared by not forgetting a cell phone and a ice chest;)

I am usually the guy digging thru his collection of nuts and bolts for a replacement for the one that fell off of someones jeep, or pulling out the wire and connectors for someone.

It really depends on where I'm going as to what I bring, and who else is going with me dictates what to bring too. The farther away from home the more I bring, the closer, less.

Honda generator, satelite dish, and small flat screen tv!

Seriously though, I have a fire extinguisher, typical recovery gear, a tool kit with misc tools, plastic ties, electrical tape, duct tape, misc spare fluids, blanket, water, spare tire, jack, and first aid kit.

I don't carry spare axles, u-joints, etc. I figure if I break out there (never have) I'll deal with that later. Most trails are well traveled and help is never too far away (famous last words).

Ive always got the assortment of tools nuts bolts wires and connectors. The main thing I will not leave home without is my my back pack though. Ive got everything I would need to live out of that thing for days on end if I had to. It has 2 lighters a chunk of a pitch stump for fire starter, a small gerber hatchet with a knife in the handle. space blanket and first aid kit. ive also got a .22 survival rifle that straps to it. fishing line and hooks. surefire flashlight and a compass.

Agreed when i was on my most resent deployment everyone made fun of me because i spent 500$ on a backpack and a ton of things to go in it for wtshtf. don't have a .22 for it thats still in tn. but i can easily throw my Springfield XDM 9mm in there with some extra rounds. not a rifle but still good to have.

Bear spray for when the neighbors dog chases me, he got used to the burlap on the hub after one thumping. :D

Teasing,
but around here bear spray is a good idea if you are not in a hard sided vehicle.

Chap Stick, off, thermonuclear sun block, TP. First aid kit, space blanket, This is always in the box, other stuff is by the trip.
