My oil pressure gage was indicating 10psi or less after purchasing the jeep. After driving it for a few miles it was showing even less and was fluctuating. Assuming it was a loose connection I checked behind the gage and found the light bulb was loose. I pulled the light out and the pressure gage jumped to 45psi. It appears the light bulb was interferring with the needle.

Now for the question...What is the normal oil pressure for a AMC 232 i6 (3.8L)? Mine appears to be running around 45psi to 60psi. Does this seem high for this engine?

Apreciate the help.

From what I understand, if you can't hear the lifters clattering you are fine. A good way to get a better reading on oil pressure would be to buy an inexpensive mechanical gauge and make a temporary hook up, or just make it permanent. I got a better reading on mine by changing the sending unit.

Ditto on changing the sending unit. Checked mine with a mechanical gauge and had 20 psi warm and 40+ cold while dash gauge read 0-5 warm and 15 cold. Changed sending unit and is almost spot on now.
