Oil Pressure Gauge Wiring

Tryin to install an Original Oil Pressure Gauge in a 1980 CJ5 . Currently have a mechanical gauge but the wires are still there for electric. Have a Red, Purple and Black. On which Post do the Red and Purple go when facing the dash panel? Still going to leave the mechanical gauge there but tucked under dash for future verification! Thanks

The red wire is on the drivers side.

So that leaves the purple on the passenger side and the black (ground) on the center post?

As I remember on my '77 the purple was from the oil sending unit, black was ground and the red was from headlight switch.

The Sending unit that is currently on the engine has 2 red wires...One Red goes directly to the Automatic choke. A main red wire was spliced into the Hot wire on the Amp gauge. Splitting off this Hot wire is a 2 more red wires. One going to a dead end (towards the distributor) and one to the Transmission . The purple wire has been unplugged on both ends..There is also a fitting on the unit to allow for a mechanical gauge to be installed which is what I have now. Since the wiring diagram in the repair manual is vague and I am not a wiring expert can anyone guide me in the right direction to get my Original electric gauge to work properly????
