Ok well all the bolts are out of the oil pan and it didn't drop out like it did last time. I have to figure out how to break it free w/o messing it up. I keep smelling coolant but never have found a leak. when I was working on the oil pan I notice on the exhaust manifold there was a liquid. I don't have any coolant lines any where near this. Does anyone have any Ideas Please don't say a head gasket. I am really starting to think I am way over my head on this...:bang: Any advice would be awesome. I can post a pic when I get home from base today if needed.

Thank you Thank you

Triple check that all the bolts are out of the pan and LIGHTLY tap it with a rubber mallet. If that doesn't work try a putty knife in between the mating surfaces. Work it around the seam until the pan pops off. Got a picture of the fluid on the exhaust. May help someone get a better idea.

The fluid on the exhuast manifold will not be easy to figure out with out a good pic of it. Im pretty sure the coolant lines cross over to the intake manifold so that might be a leak to look into. also there are is a temp seonor all the way to the back of the block, on the manifild side that is in the head so there is another spot.

I had a hard time getting my oil pan down, It was a few years ago but Im pretty sure there was an interference issue with the motor mounts. I think there is also a few hard to see bolts in the front and rear of the pan pretty close to each other and can easily be missed.

Double check all the bolts are out, make sure your motor mounts are not interfering then work it gently with a rubber mallet and scrapper.

I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and my coolant lines don't cross over the manifold they are on the right side. I will look for the sensor and post a pics tonight. It will be hard to get a good shot though. I will try thanks a lot

The coolant line might be a difference between the 75 and 83 I had. I have a supply and return coolant lines that run to the intake manifold.

If you can't get a good pic of the area where the coolant is can you give us a cylinder number that is located.. Like by 5&6. There alot of real estate inthe manifold that can be wet.
