I like to give Bill D a big thanks for picking up my new to me 71 CJ5 last Monday. This will be my wheeling rig for the 2017 CO trail ride.

Overall the Jeep is in good shape, some spots of rust here and there but solid. It has the stock rear 44, 30 spline one piece shafts. Has an upgraded 30 with disc brakes in the front. Full Detroit in the rear with Limited slip in the front running 4.88 gears. 225V6/T-14 /D18 with Warn OD, and upgraded sag PS.

The seller and Bill filled his pickup bed with spare parts as well. Long block 225 V6, SM465 Transmission , 2 Delco and 1 electronic distributors, steering linkage, metal plate already cut for boxing the frame, nerf bars, factory service manual, a ton of gear lube, a few brake M/C and and a bunch of other items.

When I saw the ad on CL I checked the date listed and noticed it had just been posted only 20 mins ago. The seller had owned the Jeep since 95 and is moving so everything went.

Also, I just got off the phone with Bill, and he is on his why back now with my new to me 8274 Warn winch. The winch looks and work good, the price was right as well at $250. The 2a is still for sale. (pic on next page)

Thanks so much Bill !!!

Well, to say I'm jealous would be a MAJOR UNDERSTATEMENT! :punk:
What a GREAT find on your part. :chug:
Didn't Bill D say that till you pick it up, he's letting 'student-drivers' borrow it to learn about drive'n a stick? :poke:
Why does it have a CA. plate? Got any more pictures?

You don't live out East! Maybe things have changed but when I was in Maryland stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, just the insurance on a vehicle out there was another car payment. (1986) Everything was very expensive, I think worse than California.

IIRC, Bill told me the 2a lived in Ca for awhile then moved back to CO. He also said it was in good shape.

I saw the 2a for sale on CL with a 8274 mounted on the front. They were being sold as a unit, but I gave it a shot and contacted the seller to see if he would be willing to let just the winch go. After some discussion we worked out a price of $250 and Bill picked it up yesterday.

Note: the dash is custom metal

I don't have any pics of my 71, the seller took down the ad and the link he sent me with all the pics is dead.

I don't have a good picture of your Jeep yet (Don't need one-I have the Jeep) but here is one of it sitting in the garage.

I'll post some more when I get a bit more time. Right now, Carol is getting ready to have new carpeting laid in the house and my "honey do" list is pretty long.

That top looks almost new.
What a great find in the Jeep world! :notworthy:

Thanks LG, I'm excited to get my hands on it, but technically Bill owns this Jeep and warn winch being their in his procession and he has the title. :D

I'm guessing the color is candle light yellow, Bill told me it came with an unopened gallon of factory paint. The seller was kind enough to give me the lot for 2k under his asking price. The day before Bill picked up the jeep the seller told me he had a lot of calls on it.

No kid'n, he would get a lot of calls about this JEEP.
Good thing that I didn't see it before you. :poke:
Posi-You really need to start buy'n all the Lotto tickets you can. :D

Haha yeah, the only reason I have it was because I saw the ad and responded 20 mins after he listed.

I'm really starting to think about using ( what I'm going to dub the Posi-method ) this manner of buying a Cj for the Rubicon trail ride. It seems to work well for Posi. :chug:

POSI, Congrats !! another '71 owner again. Didn't you have a Renegade II also that you sold? .Cool that you got all the extra's and a winch to boot.
Need pictures when you have time and get it home. How about a Renegade II tribute built ha ha ! mike

A coworker used to say " you got to strike will the iron is hot"

Thanks Mike,

Yes, it lived on the 300 acre estate of Moose Hill Farm. Spent a lot of time as a yard plow truck. When the owner passed he donated the land to the town. The guy that was hired to demo all the structures also sold the structure's content.

I found the ad simply listing a 79CJ for $600 with no description. The ad had one picture showing a small part of the Jeep, but it was enough for me to see it was not a 79 rather a 71 Renegade 2. I called the seller and told him it was a 71 not a 79, and I would be there that day with $600.

When I got there I paid him and completed the paperwork. He told me the engine didn't run, I grabbed my jug of fuel added a bit to the carb and the engine fired up.....and ran great! The seller looked at me with a slight smirk, and shook his head........"if I only knew it ran that good".

I would say this qualifies as a barn find. It's prior home.

When I got it home the first thing I did was removed the plow and push rails. I a buddy offered me $400 for the plow setup. Did a general cleanup, added a 2.5 lift and new bushings, found some sausage slots and tires.

I did sell it to a buddy and still lives 35 mins away.

After I sold the Jeep I found the 5 correct D slot rims and gave them to my buddy to mount on the Ren 2, where they belong.

Posi, thankyou for the story on the Renegade II. A snowplow! who would of thought. We don't have hardly any plows here in the NW.Maybe a few,but mostly government or for hire. thanks again.

I like to give Bill D a big thanks for picking up my new to me 71 CJ5 last Monday. This will be my wheeling rig for the 2017 CO trail ride.

So are you buying a different jeep for each trail ride? :p

It would have cost me close to $2000 to ship my Jeep out and back for the last CO trail ride. Without going into details, financially it was wiser decision for me to buy a new CJ.

That may change for 2017 CO trail ride because I found an independent driver to haul my CJ, this cuts out the middle man (broker) and his fee.

I'd be happy to go over the details next year at Handlebars over an Alaskan ale and elk burger. :)

I agree. New cars depreciate quickly but a 45 year old jeep is done depreciating. Now it depends on the condition of the jeep. If you find a good deal and spend a little time making it run good, I think it's easy to turn a profit.
