I have to redo my AMC20 rear axle seals this fall and I am giving serious thought to just putting in the Moser 1-piece axles since I have to yank the axles anyway. I am going to refresh my rear drum brakes at the same time with all new hardware. Looking at the Moser site my 81 CJ7 needs the CJS package and it looks like the kit comes with everything I need. 1. Do I have to pull the rear diff cover as part of axle installation?

2. Does the kit from Moser really come with everything I need to pull my old axles and put these new ones in or are there other parts I need when I do this?

My CJ7 is my daily driver so it can't sit around waiting for parts if I find I am missing something after I get ready to put it back together.

No need to remove the differential cover.

Yes, everything is there to do the conversion. Btw, you can get that kit from Summit with free shipping...
 
I installed Superior 1-piece axles, before they went out of business, along with new Timken wheel bearings. With all the complex spacers and seals, at first I could feel the drag during deceleration, probably from the compression on wheel bearings, but by now, 10 years later, she rolls on after foot off the gas (TF999 auto tranny) like the Jeep is in free-fall.

The attached Superior Install chart has some interesting diagrams that may be helpful. The only puzzling part was getting the hardware pressed onto the axle before re-attaching the rear brake backing plate.

Yes-The kit is complete.
You will need a press for the axle bearing.
I used a section of steel pipe to seat the bearing and collar.
Do one side at a time......
Sit the jeeps weight on the 'pumpkin' to take the load off the axle tubes-Makes it easier to get the axles in and out.
Lift the side you are working on about 1 inch or so, to keep the gear oil from run'n out.
Will you have to order from the states, and have it shipped to Germany?

Good to know that the kit has everything I need.

I almost invariably order from the States. One big advantage of being military is I don;t have to buy on the economy unless it is an emergency. The same parts I can get from Summit or Quadratec usually have a 300-400% markup on the economy. For example, I had to get a new clutch plate and put it on when I bought the Jeep so it would roll. That cost me almost $500 after currency conversion but I could have gotten a kit form the US for $AMC 150 .
This won't happen until December-January. I have to get shoulder surgery on my one remaining factory original shoulder in October. I want to start ordering parts now though so I have them when I decide to go ahead and do it.
