Jeep : CJ : eBay Motors (item 330409427783 end time Mar-07-10 08:21:30 PST)

So I have been really debating going from my CJ5 and putting all my good items on a CJ7 rolling chassis for awhile now. The reason being is I have a child now and need more interior room for wheeling but I do not want to go to a Wrangler or Cherokee. I love CJ's way too much even if the newer Jeeps are more capable I dont really care since I don't go hardcore anymore. The problem is my 5 has a perfect frame and body (flawless). I restored the frame a few years ago so I didn't want to start over. I found this CJ7 on Ebay last night and the guy lives close by. It is not complete but it has the frame and body completely redone plus a few other goodies I would like to have. The lift is just stupid and most of his stuff will be pulled in favor of mine. The CV shafts are nice and can be shortened for my needs plus the back one would be a spare for me. I just really want that frame, body and Dana 300 for mine.

So, take a look at the link and tell me what you think a going price should be if I chose to bid on this Jeep.

If the jeep is close to you, I would go over and check the frame out really good before you make any bids. since it has a fiberglass tub it must of been rusted out.
You might want to ask which painless harness he has, they make one for the chevy engine which might need some work to work with an amc engine.
If everything checked out I would give maybe 2 or 3K I don't know.
I would see if he knows who made the body. There is such a quality differance out there.

Fiberglass bodies do vary in quality quite a bit. I have one on my Jeep. I have a chevy 350 motor so the wiring harness will match up. His T-5 will get scrapped and I want the Dana 300 to convert onto my Jeep T-18 . I sent a him a bunch of questions this morning and I want to go check it out before Saturday if I can.

For what it's worth my 2¢,

If you can get it for less than $2K it may be worth it, maybe.

Really it looks like you're buying little more than a pre-painted fiberglass body. There's no rollcage or sports bar. There's no windshield.

The not so painless wiring harness, which one did he use?

Chevy 350's are dime a dozen, so you're not getting anything spectacular there.

5.5" spring over lift installed with a drop pitman arm and custom high angle CV drive shafts

This really scares me, spring over lift plus a 5.5" lift kit? That's a lot of lift, a lot more than a pair of high angle driveshafts and a drop pitman arm can compensate for.

Heck, there's 4 days left on the auction, swing by my house on the way down we'll go look at it together :chug:

The lift is aweful and getting chucked. I cant believe he was going to drive that thing like that. Very illegal in CT. He actually has the roll bar though. I don't know. I like the idea of the frame being spot less with a spot less body. Maybe buying a used frame and getting a new tub for my Jeep would actually be better and cheeper in the end. I dont really want anything else. I think I just talked myself out of it.

Seventeen bids, $1525, nearly four full days left. It'll sell pretty high to somebody who doesn't understand, or who just wants a street Jeep.

For what's in it, I don't think I'd pay as much as the current bid. I wouldn't put up with that color paint myself, so the paint job is more of a PITA to me than anything. It's got a frame and a (hopefully pretty good) tub and a front clip and a T-5 /Dana 300 and two axles - that's about what'cher buying. There's no telling what condition the shortblock is in, even - it may be .030 over, worn, and ready for sleeves. It may have spun a bearing & in need of line boring. It's... an anchor. If it wasn't, it'd be in the Jeep, running.

Last, you don't know how WELL he's done ANY of that work. Wouldn't it be better to do it yourself, and know for sure?

Aaah, ne'er mind. You've already talked yourself out of it. Hope I helped clinch that. :)

Stamford. Hey, I know that town!

As of this morning the bid went higher than I would pay. He did get back to me with his phone number and said I could come look at it. At least he is legit. I hope the person that wins this Jeep is smart enough to bring the suspension back down to earth so they don't sie the first time they get on the road with it.

I think they did you a favor. That Jeep has been listed several times.

If so, not by the same person. See the seller's history? This is their FIRST EBAY LISTING EVER.

Like what happens when eBay bans you for violations & you have to start all over with a new name.

That's SCARY.

THAT is PLUMB FLAT RIDICULOUS.

Where are the clowns?

Sad part is, that Jeep has been on Ebay for like two months now. I thought people finally woke up and stopped building :dung: like that.

Even at 2k, I would go give it a look. If the body is quality, the frame is legit, and the harness isn't all hacked up, I honestly think it may be worth the $$. It's getting tough to find a good jumping off place for 2k anymore. :(

Good point. I know it was listed atleast twice before for sure. And this may come as a shock but so was the CJ8 that Old Dog posted. I spend too much time on the internet. :D
