My CJ7 came with the original wheels (so I believe). It still had the old Tracker AT tires on it when I got it a year ago.

When I pulled the tires off to have the rims sandblasted, it was clearly stamped in there 15x8. I'm looking for a 5th one for a spare and I have an ad posted in the classifieds to that effect.

My question is this: were all 76-86 CJ's with wagon wheels 15x8's or were some 15x7's? I've been told that those without the holes for Laredo style hubcaps are a 15x7's unless they've been replaced. I don't believe that as I'm quite sure mine are original. For whatever reason, I thought if you had the Tracker AT tires or a Laredo you got 15x8's but if you had the Firestone Town & Country tires, you got the 15x7's - but I could be full of :censored: too. Either way, what's the truth?

Not sure about which size came on what model, but my 83 8 has 15x7's if that helps in any way. I too am looking for a 5th wheel to match, the spare rim is bent pretty bad.

I would be suprised about an oem 15x8 wheel. They came with P235/75R15s and 15x7 wheels, I still have the oem owners manual, and that is the max size listed. Although the dealer could have done some work though.

It could have been a tire issue. When they switched to GY. Tracker PG tires, which came from the factory on my 82 Renegade , they were 15x7's. There was at the time, an option for getting the GY. Wranglers as an upgrade and they may have needed an 8" rim too, I don't know. Wranglers always seemed to be a fatter tire back then. Then theres also the dealer issue, as mentioned. They could do their own mods once received. So it's hard to say for certain, as the truth will vary.

Narrow track got the 15x8 and wide track got the 15x7 I believe, don,t Quote me.15x7 had the holes for center caps.

That could be true as well. I have an 82 and it had the center caps and 15x7's.

Hmmmmmmmm..... I hadn't considered that. Interesting. That would make sense if that's the case. Nice call there AMCCJ7...:notworthy:

That's a super clean cj you have there 007. You should be proud.:)

Well I appreciate your compliment, but in all honesty it's really not. It's pretty from afar, but far from pretty... It needs a tub bad. It's all original for sure, but needs a tub. I've just been polishing the turd so-to-speak.

I have a YJ tub I'm not convinced is worth saving itself, but I bought it for $100... Currently shopping tubs though.

81 was the only year of 15x8 wheels that had holes for factory center caps. Later (82-up) CJ's were 15x7. Earlier CJ's had 15x8 wheels but did not have the 5 little holes drilled for mounting the stock center cap.

81 15x8 Chrome wagon wheels bring pretty good $$$ if in good shape, although one can take earlier wheels and drill holes if you want to run OEM center caps.

Thats interesting to know wm69, by any chance do you know what size tires came with the 15x8s since the 15x7s came with the p235s which were around 28" I believe.
