1970 CJ5, V6, 3spd, power steering, headers, electric fans, upgraded larger radiator, '78 grill, disc brakes (front only), swing pedals, hyd clutch, extended front shock mounts, upgraded front driveline w larger u-joints, warn OD, D30 front diff, lockers, 2100 carb, working on a '74 tub replacement, '78 windshield frame with '78+ Acme hardtop
Just added another CJ5 to the stable. I have a single Warn Overdrive , which one would you put it in?

First is '69 CJ5 with V6, T-14 , 4:88s, lockers, 33" tires, headers and used 85% off-road in USA.

Second is '70 CJ5 with V6, T-14 , 3:73s, open diffs, 29-30" tires and is used 80% on non-4X4 surfaces in USA & Baja.

Thanks,

Considering your gear ratio, tire size and type of utilization, I believe I'd put it on the '70 model.

:)The 70 already has a tall gear in it so I cannot see any good reason to add it to that vehicle and end up with a 2:79 final drive ratio in high gear. Way to fast for Highway driving.

On the other hand the 69 with the 4:88's even though driven off road would be complemented by having the ability to have a 25% gear change in all gears Nice to be able to pick a different ratio for some of those off road challenge's where by one gear is just not right for the trail.

Of course I am assuming that both of these vehicles still have either a D-18 or Dana 20 Transfer Case and are both set up for the offset drive to the rear drive so that the rear port is still open for the Warn OD.

:D:D:D:D

Still offset drive original transfer cases. Since I have a couple of post I will post my feelings. Basically, my opinion was the same as tarry99. The ability to split the gears was the attraction for me. If I need more high end on the '70 I can install larger dia tires.

Thanks to both of you. I needed to hear both sides.
