Overheating problem

So I went camping and decided to go explore some of the hills. I had no thermostat so my engine, radiator and coolant soon reached around 260 and was spraying out of the radiator cap and had swelled my plastic coolant reservoir to about 1 1/2 it's normal size before the cap popped and shot everything out. Since then I have fully flushed my coolant system, replaced my radiator cap, installed a 160° thermostat and replaced my water pump, However I cant get it to stop overheating. My fan spins at all times, my coolant flows freely and I've purged all of the air out of the system, but in town and on the freeway it quickly reaches 210°+ and starts burning my oil. Any ideas anyone?

Are you missing a fan shroud?

What engine are you running? What fan setup? What year CJ?

V belt or Serpentine belt? Did you get the correct water pump? There is a standard and reverse rotation.

Usually, running at road speeds (30mph+ in my experience) and running hot is usually a cooling system problem. Running hot a low speed/idle, but cooling down on the road usually indicates a fan issue.

You either need a new radiator or have a 'rod-out' done on the one you have.
You have little to no coolant flow.
PLZ-We need to know more details about this Jeep.
If it the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 6cyl. You may have installed the wrong rotation WP.

You should run a 195 thermostat and drill a small hole in the base, it helps with air bubbles.

Yeah-A 160* t'stat doesn't fix a thing.
In fact, it will cause sludge issues down the road.
