steering columns were gm anyhow. walmart couldn't make keys because they looked in the chyrsler section. Home depot used gm blanks

These Jeeps sure are a learning experience

I figured the ignition was jury rigged since the whole thing would come out in your hand when you went to take the key out.

What about the headlight switch? Should there be a plug there?

Please tell me AMC didn't use wire nuts...

Yes it should have a plug and I probably have one if needed.

Some of these hack jobs don't surprise me but what really gets under my skin is when I find something like this, re-do it correctly, while testing everything as I go along, and when it's all together it no longer works or doesn't work as well as their pvc pipe, speaker wire twisted together with rotting electrical tape, etc ever did. I stand there wishing I had never touched it in the first place.

this is the funniest freakin thing ever, i love it. especially being an aircraft mechanic, gotta be safe and properly torqued and be able to look clean when fully assembled, however the wisest thing i was taught in school was "if the manual doesnt say to specifically do it a certian way or specifically not to do it a certian way, then as long as it looks good and works good it must be good". honkin huge over done grounding straps. sweet, i know its got a good ground system as long as the connections are proper. the wire nuts however im not really cool with, most of the time ill find them and properly terminate everything then see what does/doesnt work before i go trying to back out the po engineering, same story on my boat.

What probably happened was the plug melted and caused the wires to short out so the PO replaced the HL switch and cut off the plug. Common problem with the CJ headlamp switch cause it gets dirty and corrodes on the contacts causing it to heat up. Its a good idea to look into the HL relay upgrade to reduce the load running through it while your poking around with the switch

Man we keep finding stuff...

Nails used for cotter pins

Here is the PS bracket. It was "engineered" so there was no way to adjust or even remove the belt.

Sterring coupler. This doesn't look safe...

This one is interesting. I can't tell from what material this bushing is made from. It almost looks like wood.

Once we popped them out we realized they are some kind of plastic.

No telling what we will find next.
