paint cost...

paint cost...
Thanks boys, this is what I was looking for...keep it coming

Love DIY comments bit reality is i have 3 young kids and just moved to the suburbs so do not have the time or space to do it...yes I now have half the size house and garage therefore pay more in taxes...

My line of work has gotten me involved in painting :(. There are a lot of variables to it. yes body work is the labor intensive part. prep is the key. What paint you use is another. base/clear.. single stage.. acrylic enamel... poly urethane... etc. There is an online paint store called "the coating store. com". I've used their products and they are comparable to the "good" brands. I recommend a single stage polyurethane for many reasons. 1 being it can be matched and blended easier. jeeps get scratched. it also holds up well against scratches. 2 Unless you go with a Premium clearcoat it will not only lose its uv protection but it will yellow over time... Just a thought.... The more the paint cost the more the mark up on price is... If u pay someone... SPEND the money required. They will not more than likely redux it at no cost... go with quality reputation..... By the way $4000 to $6000 range in georgia gets a jeep a good quality paint job... show cars $10k and up! And up!

One shop gave me a quote of $5K - $6K depending upon how the body shows up and what paint I choose.

He does hot rods, show cars, and such - no collision work - so I expected him to be a bit higher. The whole new body, dog house, windshield frame, etc is going to cost less than the paint!

I agree get what you pay for but gulp!

It's a Jeep, so unless your going for a show vehicle, I would say DYI. I'd hate to spend $6k on a paint job, go off-road and scratch it . Take a look at certifiablejeep . He has a web site with all the Jeeps he's rebuilt. He painted his with a roller! ;) There is a lot of different DYI ways to paint your Jeep. So you would most likely be under $1000 that way. Mine will be around $400 total.

Line-X is really good stuff, but expensive. I was quoted $700 for the premium liner on a 6 foot truck bed, inside only. I think the whole Jeep would be around $2k. Also the body will need to have all the rusted out places fixed first. They rough up the surface before Appling, but they don't fix any defects. The upside is you'll have a finish that will last forever.

Forever is a long time to look at bedliner . I would be over it in about 5 minutes.

Yeah, that would be my fear too.

I did have my 5x9 trailer's interior sprayed with Line-X. The shop did a fantastic job. Really protects the plywood from scrapes/gouges.

On a positive note I did my welding and body work on a rotisserie that I build from plans that can be found online "Tommy B's Rotisserie @ earlycj5."
Cost than (2008) was $200 for material. I can tell you that this is the only way to do a jeep tub where you have outside, inside, underneath, etc.
After the work by me was completed I loaded the whole thing in a trailer and hauled to painter. He did a great job and brought it home set it on the frame. After loaning it out a few times I sold it this year for $300.
Wasn't that hard to build and with my Limited space when I was done working I just turn it up sideways and roll it against the wall.mike
