Does anyone have a rough estimate of what a paint job might run me? I'm talking about doing it right, prime, good color-not exotic, and a clear coat. I live in East Tennessee and was just wanting a ballpark figure. Tub is off and ready as well as fenders, dash, tailgate, and windshield. Thanks for any input.

last time i asked about a paint job on my CJ, they wanted $800 for the super crappy job $3k for a good one, fixing my rust and dent issues and using a better quality paint but the only way you will know is to take yours to a paint guy and get a quote from him

The skies the limit, depending on who you know, how well the prep work is done, and how good you want it done. I have heard guys talk about $10,000 for a great job on a show car. I'll bet they never paid that much. I would really check around. Somebody out there is real good and reasonable. Be careful of who you take it to. For example, if a shop has a ton of vehicles sitting around waiting to get the body work done and painted, you may not see your tub for a long time. Which could mean he's cheap, but taking on more than he can handle and he may not take or have the time to do it right.

3g's is a bit pricey.. I paid 1800 for my WJ. It was that metallic red, cleared but only had one area of dent to be repaired. I'm gonna paint me yj myself.. Figuring $300 in paint and another $100-200 in materials. But I also have the space, compressor and guns.

I would keep your money and buy the tools to do it yourself. I probably spent 4 weekends taking everything apart, sanding, fixing rust, bondo, prime and paint.

total cost with all the tools i ever wanted (dewalt compressor, all air tools, new rubber, and paint) was ~$1500. not i have a ton of tools and a fresh painted CJ. Not a hard project, my first time with all of this.

my first jeep I painted I used tractor supply semi gloss black.. cost $40 and looked alot better then several $500 maco specials.

Depends on the shop and the paint. I checked with a neighbor who owns a body shop and uses water borne paints, which btw uses a different paint booth system and is the way the industry is going; and he figured about $2500 and that was me doing all the bodywork and prime. So I went to a Car Quest store and got a quote for some Dupont Chromabase(which has held up well for 16 years) paint, clear, activator, whatever I needed beyond the priming stage. .... $407 !!! I'm sure I could pay a painter $100/hour and still be under a grand!

You could always paint it yourself! :D

Check out ebay and house of kolor, urekem-the coating store... etc.. to find good prices on polyurethane base coat and a clear coat. Of course you'll need the activators/hardeners etc.. Some places sell the entire kit for under $300 but if you have more $, you could always spend more. :)

I painted my own CJ7 jeep a hot pearl pink and I also put a sealer/pirmer on it before hand. I purchased a HVLP (High velocity low pressure) spray gun from Harbour freight for under $30 with a gauge and then other things like sand paper, strainers, etc from them too.. (Sorry, its been a while since I painted the CJ7 so can't recall all the things you'll need to do a good job yourself)
Oh you will need an air compressor too... :p

That's just a suggestion... But if money is no object, I would have professionals paint it..

Don't forget to search the internet/youtube for diy videos too...

Good Luck!
