(poor thing needs a little bit of time and a few kind words)
I have removed the under dash components; pedals, steering wheel support, and e-brake assembly. Plan is to get them all sandblasted tomorrow.

Question is this, I am going to do a bed liner on the inside of the tub. Would it be better to just paint these parts now and call it done? Should I try and spray the bed liner on these pieces too? Might be too thick for the e-brake to function properly? On the parts I plan on bed lining, should I put the rust converter on for the time being or just primer paint them?

Just asking advice from those who have done it before me, I don't like trying to reinvent the wheel!

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

Just bedliner the tub everything else you just paint. :)

Yep, think you might be better off to paint those items. Besides function, will probably look good to have a bit of contrast btwn the bed liner floorboards and the pedals.

Whatever you use to protect the inside of the rig is going to get thrashed in time. My vote is for replaceable protection like carpet or carpet liner, something that can breathe helps, even with the floor mat over your pretty paint. It is a Jeep after all.

Thanks!

the plan, (for now), is to bedline the inside and bottom of the tub and leave the paint you can see from a distance with the original patina. I plan on prepping well so it will stick after applying the rust convertor where necessary. Bedliner will be put on pretty thick to keep from chipping it up wth rocks on the bottom.

Same plan inside the cab. There is not more than 2sq feet of rust to worry about inside and out on this tub, it was kept in the garage for the most part when not being driven. I was pretty fortunate to get one in this shape looking around at some other projects!

Will probably use some sort of rubber floormat inside on top of the bedliner just to keep from wearing it out with my 13EE's on the pedals.

Again, thanks for the input by all on this question. This will be of great assistance.:notworthy::chug:

Not a big fan of bedliner, other than the bed of a p/u, but whatever you do prep is key. Prep & Etch or Metal Ready are good products to prepare rusty surfaces, as is Eastwood's Rust Converter. If you do not first treat the existing rust and then seal it from air and moisture.... it will return eventually.
I would then coat things with POR or Rust Encapsulator, then topcoat it with your color of choice. Follow the manf. directions.

That's the starting point of the plan anyway, doesn't do much good to try and paint/bed line if you don't properly prepare the surfaces. Apparently the Jeep was primed well in 1980, that paint is still on there and good too! Even has the undercoat on the tub still!

All will be buffed to a T before applying anything over the top and rust remediated first, it looks better rusty than trying to lay paint down on rust!

That is what I am wanting to do to mine, bedliner underside and floor side of tub. I was lucky to find one with little rust also. There are 3 places on the passenger floor pan and 2 small places on the body. (the ones that are through). Other than that, just some surface rust. I want to remedy it before it gets worse.
I have also considered doing my hardtop in the liner too, but can't make up my mind on that.
Let me know how yours goes. I hope to start mine soon.

I used Monstaliner Chassis saver as a rust preventive. I am going to leave it that way. I used a roller and it turned out great. Just floor mats for mine. Po used carpet and it held moisture. Painted the pedals.

Great job tjmons!

This is about the earliest i have been home in a week, so the job is probably not going to get done this weekend anyway:(.

I still have to do minor fab work before I can get too busy on the frame. Found a crack when I turned it over.

Thanks , good luck to you and please post pictures as you go. Sweet CJ by the way

I used the stuff that has an alligator on the front of the bottle. Don't rememeber the name. I sprayed both inside and bottom of my tub. I painted the inside with the jeep color and the underside with some chassi black I had leftover from another project.
