i just got a used set of fiberglass fenders for the jeep. they are painted purple and i want to just paint them black untill we can get a new body for it. my ? is what is the best way to remove the paint. i never messed with fiberglass before and dont want to wreck it.

From what I've read the aircraft paint remover is the safest thing to use on fiberglass. You just can't leave it on there too long or it will start to eat away at the resin on the fiberglass as well. You're probably still going to have a little bit of sanding to do, but the aircraft stripper will get most of it off.

Why remove the old paint?
I always thought standard practise was to scuff up the surface, then paint over it.

I think ken has the right idea,

Wet sand , prime than paint it

Use the Krylon Fusion paint.....perfect for plastics and fiberglass.

theres some spots where the paint is cracked and i want to make sure its just the paint and not the fender cracked. if the fender is cracked now is a good time to fix it with them off.

I had my doubts about the stuff until my girlfriends dad and I sanded and painted a compound bow with it. The composite limbs flex and the paint is holding up perfectly.

i used it on a flexible rc truck body and it works good.

ok i took a rollock to the spots i thought where cracked. i found two cracks on each fender. what is the best way to go about fixing these cracks?
