I've never been able to figure out why the BRAKE light in my gauge cluster never comes on when I set the parking brake. After years of digging around and giving up not being able to figure out where the wire goes, I finally figured it out.

My parking brake assembly looks like this one

s-l1600.webp

I need this little silver part

s-l1600.webp

Anyone know a source for that part? I've searched all of the online places I can think of, Morris4x4, RockAuto, JCWhitney with no luck... I found that on eBay, but I have no desire to buy a $AMC 150 parking brake assembly just for that little part. Thanks :chug:

I seriously doubt if the parking brake assembly was an AMC specific item. They like to assemble their vehicle using a bunch of part from 'the big three'.

Head to your local junk yard and do some looking in the 70's-80's rows.

That's very true Hack, I should have thought of that. Thanks :chug:

Give these guys a call.
J&W Jeep

They have helped me many times in the past.;)

Rob @ Willys Works has them used on the shelf. He charges $5.00 + shipping.

This is the one that's on my 1976 CJ5 :

ParkingBrake001.webp

Or you could head down to your local Jeep dealer and see if you can get one for a 91-95 YJ. MOPAR part # 56007167

MOPAR shows that part is discontinued, but it's possible that a dealer might still have one in inventory.

Otherwise, you can expand your search into the YJ's at the junkyards.

You could also give these guys a call: J&W Jeep

^^^ Lumpy beat me to it....

I took my pedal lever off last year and replaced it with a hand brake from an XJ. Did not even think about the light not working ever again. But it never worked to begin with so no loss for me.

The light for mine has never worked in the 11 years I've owned it. Last year I installed all new rear brake everything, all the way down to the brake cylinders, and I can not count how many times I've tried backing out of the driveway or driving away while the parking brake is still engaged. So, while I've been doing a bunch of other wiring I figured this one out.

Thanks for all the replies guy, I'll make some phone calls on Monday and see what I can find. :chug:
