So i recently picked up a 79 CJ7 with a 5.0 Mustang motor in it and the clutch is gone for good and i am not sure 100% on the replacement clutch can anyone help me out here? Working now to figure out if it is the Jeep tranny attached or a Mustang tranny as well?
1979 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8, T18 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer case with TeraLow 3:1 gears, 4.88 axle gears, Detroit Locker up front and Ox Locker in back with 1 piece axle shafts, 36" SuperSwamper SX Tires, Shackle reversal, MileMarker Hydraulic winch, MSD 6A ignition.
I once put in a Ford T-18 Tranny into a CJ. I called up the guys at CenterForce clutch company. They were very helpful. They should be able to help you too. Remove your old clutch and call them up. If you are not interested in CenterForce you should be able to find someone else to sell you a clutch with your specs. The pressure plate should be easy if you know the engine. They may ask you to measure the flywheel diameter and the clutch bolt holes just to make sure.
Of course the friction plate needs to match the diameter of the pressure plate. Next you will have to measure the input shaft of the tranny. If you know for sure what tranny you have you can just look it up. The input shaft of the tranny needs the to fit into the friction plate so you need its diameter and the number of splines.
