There are huge grain silos here on the Mississippi River for loading large ships to go over seas and about 40 years ago they found out the hard way that the grain dust can be highly explosive. One of the huge cement silos blew up. Once they figured out was was happening they were able to mitigate the situation

Some of the guys I work with used to work on grain silos and they said they were always pretty scared of them, I don’t I want to work on that’s for sure

I can imagine they were. Ventilation is the key now, not letting the dust build up

5 months to Moab!


If you haven't already, start going through your Jeep top to bottom. Make sure all fasteners are torqued to specs, replace worn parts, if you have upgrades now is the time to do them. Unfortunately because of my circumstances I won't be able to work on my CJ until April.

For the guys running carbs I would suggest lowering your float a bit so as not to flood your engine while ascending/descending.

Where's everyone staying?

At least 8 will be staying (Airbnb) on the south side of town, (5-6) miles from downtown.

Side note: I believe there is at least three being rented.

My daughter and son in law are going to join us this year. Last year, they had just built a new house, and with the cost of the driveway, and new lawn, they unfortunately had to cancel. This year they are in a better position to join us!
They already have put in for vacation time, and booked a place to stay. They will be renting a Jeep out there. First time wheelers! Should be fun!

I figure you'll zig zag around the Southwest for awhile then head north until you eventually end up in Moab in 16 weeks.

Would really love to go but this trip is costing a lot more than anticipated even with no major breakdowns. You may have to put me on the wishful thinking list.
