Hello everyone!
Riddle me this.
Which Bushings do you prefer: Poly vs Rubber?
What about on the body vs elsewhere?
Just trying to get a feel for what other folks prefer.

I personally have come to use poly for everything. There are some diehards that like to use rubber for body mounts, but I really hate to replace worn or rotted rubber stuff, so I get rid of it when I can. As far as suspension parts go, poly is the only choice as far as I'm concerned. It's more stable, lasts forever, is not effected by grease oil or solvent, and allows suspension to move easier.
 
I guess I'm old school in that I like rubber. I tried polly but didn't like the extra jaring it created (the jeep is rough enough as is). I think rubber rides better and lets the springs shackels move better.

Care to expand on that? I just picked up a full poly set for the '75...and will probably do mostly poly on the '83.
 
When the frame changed in 76 the body mounts seam to handle the less 'give' of the poly bushings better. I have a feeling it has to do with the boxing of the frame. I tried both rubber and poly and got rid of the poly fast when I switched (the first time). I also broke (cracked) a few places on my tub using poly. With rubber - never... This is just my opinion, I did order rubber with the new body I just purchased though. And, Willies Overland specifies rubber for pre 76, they pretty much felt the same way.

As usual... Opinions are like... Well, you get the idea - best thing I can say is try what you want but keep a close eye on things! :)
 
HMM , Makes sense. I hadn't thought about it till this thread. Maybe I will just use pieces out of the poly kit on the '74, to keep damage to a minimum.
 
Initially poly is hard, but after a bit it'll loosen up. I use it for eveything, but for the body I'd probably keep rubber, it's a little more forgiving. But other than the body everything gets poly, suspension, motor, tranny mounts.

BTW not all are created equal, steer clear of the cheap sets go with a big name as they are made to the same spec's everytime, not a random mixture of :dung:.
Look at what the pros use.

I dad always said spend a little more and do it once, or spend alot and do it twice.
 
I use Prothane for everything.

Did you use prothane for your body mounts? Just wondering as AJ's sold me rubber to use with there body.

It sounds like Rubber on the Body and Poly on the rest is a good way to have your cake and eat it too.
Plus, Rubber would probably be a little nicer to the old body.
 
If you go with prothane get the lube also it'll prevent squeaks.
All poly squeaks but it can be prevented.

I didn't use the prothane poly for the body, but I did use poly. I got my body from 4WD Hdw about 12 years ago, and they provided a stick of poly to be cut for bushings.
 
I bought rubber for my body and I am using poly on all suspension.(Prothane.)I have poly on the tranny and rubber on the engine(I dont like engine vibration):chug:
