86 Cj7 Laredo. All original with 258, T5, D300, D44 rear(I think), D30 front.
Morning, I have a build thread going but thought I would ask here. I'm rebuilding an 86 Laredo that will be a weekend cruiser, no crawling or such. Have a set of factory 15x7 rims I'm blasting and coating black. Based on my research so far I'm looking at Duratrac 31x10.5's to go on them. Want an decent aggressive look but jeep will be stock height or 2" lift at most. Don't want a 35" or 12.5" or nothing like that since I'll just be a poser and not a real man like most of you. Also don't want people to hear me coming 1/4 mile away with some crazy knobs on it. I believe the 31" will work at rebuilt factory height and the Duratracs have some great reviews and I like the looks. I'll post a pic of what I believe is the same tire/wheel combo on a 7 and let me know thoughts, opinions or options. Also do you think the jeep pictured is lifted any?

Would like to see pictures of the shackles and springs-But, from the picture my SWAG is stock.
Look at the BFG/AT. I have run them for many, many years and that's all my CJ will ever wear.

goodyear duratracs. by far my favorite tire. never been stuck, i n anything!!!!

I'd probably go with a 33x10.50R15 all terrain tire if you've got the gearing to turn them. They'll fit with a 2" lift as long as you're just cruising the pavement.

The BFG AT/KO measure 32.5" diameter and will work on a 7" rim.

I have always ran 31x10.5's on my stock CJs. They look right for a stock Jeep and the Duratracs should work great for you.

Ran in to a small problem. I picked up one rim yesterday at work from My buddy who had a set of 86 original white rims. Brought it home and double checked last night and it is a 15" x 4.5" off of a Cherokee. Just my luck. Looks identical. So now my question, I have located a few in the area originals on craigslist and such. Is there an aftermarket steel wheel that is darn near a match to the oem steelies that you can buy already black?? I was going to paint to a matte or semi finish but if they make a copy that I can buy reasonably that I know would be "true" and not possibly dented or warped im interested. Plus the time of stripping and painting originals could go towards other areas.

I like my Hankook DynaPro tires. I’m running 31x11.50x15 with no desire to go any bigger. They are proportionate to everything on a CJ5 . Can’t advise on wheels other than to say be aware of the backspace! I recently bought a set of Renegade Slots and ran into fitment issues. The fronts scrubbed the calipers, so I’m guessing they were off a drum brake Jeep. They have 4” of backspacing, which is 1/2” too much. Not a hurdle that can’t be cleared, but a pain in the butt!
Good luck with your project!

I believe that there are aftermarket Ford wheels with the same bolt pattern as the CJ

Also, I love my BFG AT KO2s. Been running them on all of my Jeeps and trucks since the 80s. This is the first set of the KO2s and I l e them like the original designs. And I went with the 33x10.5. Did not want to put the 12.5 width tire on the 7 inch rim.

Most Ford wheels are 4.5" on 5 lug, and Jeep CJ is 5.5" on 5 lug. ;)

Lumpy, 1/2 ton Fords ran 5 on 5 1/2 for many years. 40's thru 90's at least.
My 49 F1 had it as does my 91 Bronco.

Agree with that. Took my CJ tires & wheels and used them for a longroad trip camping with an old late 60's ford telephone van and they fit perfectly

My error :o

Even the early Bronco was 5.5x5
The Bronco II was 4.5x5 and that's what I was thinking of.
Respectfully,

On the Ford wheels, make sure the opening in the center is large enough for the CJ. I can't remember the measurements, but many of the factory Ford wheels won't fit over the CJ's Dana 30 hub. Most aftermarket wheels for Ford will fit.

Also, Dodge ran 5x5.5 lug pattern for quite a while also (I think at least 70s to early or mid 90s).

The hole needs to be 4.250" for jeep. I have had Ford rims turned out to 4 1/4" for a reasonable charge.
