Low 3 digit Vin! One of the very first m38a1s!
Back in 1975 a friend bought a brand new CJ5 Renegade . At the time it was the most beautiful and fastest Jeep I'd even seen. Still on my top 10 list.
After finishing up at the dealership a bunch of us headed for the beach, we were planning an all night party. Big fire, fresh crab & lots of beer.
As we were taking turns trying out this incredible machine in the sand the proud owner got too close to the surf & stalled the engine. After just a couple of waves the Jeep was buried up to the frame but the tide was pulling it out into the ocean.
I ran for my F-250 4x4 since I was the only guy there with a winch.
We got the cable on it and I intentionally buried my wheels into the sand. The winch wouldn't budge it! Then as the ocean tugged the cable had so much stress we were afraid it was going to snap! We had to turn it loose. :(
Within 30 minutes the new Jeep was out of sight.
It's still out there somewhere.
What sucks is that the new owner hadn't insured it yet! He spent the next 3 years paying off a Jeep we put less than 50 miles on.
Adding insult to injury, after he paid it off, he bought a Volkswagon Rabbit!
I'm still upset over that & it wasn't even my Jeep.

I'm thinking "lots of beer" had something to do with it.

Wow that's horrible

My horror story is that mine is still in the garage waiting on parts money to appear out of nowhere

I'm thinking this is more like " This is a drag story I'm jeep $ broke ". The other one really was a " horror story ". :)

Not quite, we only made it through part of the day... drinking wasn't going to be until later in the night. After the Jeep was lost everybody went home.

Horror Story ...... The other day a thought crossed my mind ...... "Maybe I should sell it" ....... A couple days later a follow up thought .... "I probably should."

Bad idea but what do you want for it?
