Cranking issues! I have a CJ5 , been sitting for a while. Will crank and run for a couple of minutes if it put starting fluid in carb. Will not crank again unless I repeat the process. Could it be something besides the carb? Thanks
A manual fuel pump will operate only when the engine is turning over. If little or no fuel is starving the engine, the carb should be dry. Try looking down the carb while operating the throttle and you should get gas squirting from the accelerator pump in the carb. If it does run for a couple of minutes and dies out, it does appear to be a low fuel issue and it is just running on starter fluid. Another possibility would be a stuck needle and seat which could be loosened up by tapping on the carb near the fuel inlet. There are a few possibilities here, you just have to eliminate them.
