I regret that I can't find the answers to my problems using search. So I have to ask.

I am converting to power steering and I have 4 obstacles.

1. Getting the boot and clamp on the shaft while installing a new coupler. Does that T pin in the end of the steering shaft come out?

2. I can't get the tie rod end out of the pitman arm. Just beat on it?

3. All the bolts holding the gear box to the frame snapped the heads off. Are the nuts inside the frame welded in place or can I rap the broken bolts from the bottom and knock them back up and out?

4. Where do I get a nipple for the PS return hose where it connects to the gear box?

Thanks in advance

1. The pin comes out as I recall

2. to remove the old ball end you need the correct tool short of distrying the arm. The tool can be rented at your auto parts store normaly or just buy one you'll use it again.

3. The steering box mount has the captured nuts in it and not the frame.

4. Good question, I think I modified a line that I had for the return and had the pressure line fabricated at a specialty shop.

1. I beat the pin with a rubber mallet and it didn't budge. I'm thinking now I may have to take the two piece shaft apart.

2. check

3. there are three bolts through the frame/leaf spring and two that are in the steering box mount.

4. I ended up buying a return hose with an end off of ebay

#1 Rubber mallet won't get it, if it's pressed in as it probably is then a press or solid hammer strikes are in order.

#3 Yes I was going off a bad memory and after looking there are 3 bolts that come up thru the bottom of the frame that do have captured nuts in the frame channel.

OK, I may have things resolved but unfinished.

Turns out the boot will stretch over the pin. The spring clamp won't, but a plastic tie will do the trick.

I will get a tie rod puller and start heating banging, and vise gripping boken bolts.

As I said before, I ordered a return hose on ebay that has the connecting nipple.

For what it is worth, I had a hell of a time finding the right belt for the pulley and settled with a 15465. I haven't tried a 15470, but a 15475 was to big. The pump doesn't sit straight up, but I think it will hold enough fluid.

Thanks for your responses
