I was in the salvage yard today pulling off some parts and noticed a Jeep with a really trashed out body but a very new looking suspension under it. I popped the hood and the engine was very clean, so I had to assume someone had really put some work in to this until it made its way to the yard. Its only been there about a month. Anyhow, there was pro comp springs on it that still had the UPC stickers on it and what appeared to be some fairly new Rancho shocks and steering stabilizer. The bushings were red and in good shape too. The yard guy said he'd pull them for me, new shackles and all, for $50 per spring. Is this a good price? They were on a 78 CJ5 but I have been unable to find any info about them even from Pro Comp. The rear model numbers were 4WD228P and the front were 4WD227P. Is there any reason that I shouldn't replace my OEM springs with these? Is it fair to assume that they will fit since they are on a '78? Would I use the axle shims off the salvaged Jeep or my own or start from scratch? I just really hate to pass up this opportunity because my springs are on their last leg.

$200 for a "new" lift kit, I'd go for it if they are going to give you shocks and all. I'd get the shims too if they come with it.

Screaming deal on some very good springs. Go for it.

did you pay attention to the axles ??

No, but I will go back out and look at them. The drive shaft was sitting on the seat, assuming it went to that Jeep, and it was in pretty sad condition. The problem is "where do you stop"? Maybe I should shoot them a price on the whole Jeep and take what I want and sell the rest to the scrap yard.:)

:agree: you might get it cheaper that way because they don't have to pull anything and you know you get all the parts from the lift and see how the go. And like you said you can sell the rest and git some of your $$ back.

Now lets sell that idea to a budget conscious wife. :)

By the way, if I put these springs, shocks and steering stabilizer on will I also need to replace the pitman arm?

You just need to tell her it is the cheaper way to go. Then you can use the pitman arm that is on it to. But if it's only a 2.5" lift you can use the stock one any bigger lift you will need to change it for a drop pitman arm.

Well, I finally sold my boat motor so I can buy the springs, shocks etc. off this Jeep. I'm waiting to hear back from the yard owner to see how much he wants for the entire Jeep. It has a AMC 304 V8 in it with some newer components. I'm wondering what the market and the value is for the motor? What is a Jeep body and frame worth in scrap metal? Any thoughts? I'm hoping to get an idea of its value before the yard owner calls back.

I would look up those part numbers up here and see if you can find them

Petescj,
I did look up the item numbers at that website and nothing came up. Or nothing that had anything to do with leaf springs.
