Is it worth owning a set? Like a steering wheel puller? Is that stuff you need to borrow from O'Reillys? Do the same puller tool sets used for steering components include steering wheel pullers?

That's really up to how much work you do on your or others CJs and other vehicles. ;)

If you don,t mind renting (borrowing) tools from an auto parts store, do not use them often and do not mind the inconvenience, borrowing may be right for you, especially for specialized tools.

I hate borrowing / renting tools. I always try and plan in advance so I try and have the correct tools for the job before I start. I also have a tool fund, I put a small amount away whenever I can for my tool fund. Over 30 years or so you would be surprised what tools you can amass! :)

Back to your original question, a good set of 2 / 3 jaw pullers is a necessity if you ask me. I like the OTC brand (you get what you pay for). As for a steering wheel puller, they are so cheap that if you need to borrow it I would just buy it.

I own a lot of Snapon and other high price tools but any more I think Habor frieght is the way to go when I go in there it's like a kid in a candy store. If you are not using them every day there is no need to spend the big bucks for a tool. For what you spend on a Snapon tool you can buy 3 or 4 of them from Harbor Frieght. And they have every thing you could need and things you never thought of.

I agree with above. You can never have enough tools. I too, don't like to borrow tools. It's nice when something breaks on my jeep or pickup, that I can fix it and have the tools to do so. I can't afford to pay a shop. My experience is to spend the money on good tools. It saves a lot of headaches and problems down the road.

Looks like I will be placing an order today. I like to have the tools on hand as well. thanks for the replies guys.

I agre with all of them, the pukler is so cheap I think I have 3 now because I loose the bolts, and I love harbor freight things like engine stands cherry pickers and presses arent used much but are very nice to have when you do need it :chug:

I ordered the OEM brand steering wheel puller. The OTC jaw puller will probably arrive with Santa. :D

Man,

I don't normaly push "Harbor Freaght" but in this case I will. For a tool that you may only use once every few years, it is worth it to have one, but not worth it to pay big money for one from "Snap-On".

I have a rule about cheep tools. If I am going to us it all the time pay the money and get a good one, but if not buy the best priced one that will work for what I need today.

Good Luck,
Mike
