Pulls to right when let off gas

Pulls to right when let off gas
Easiest way to check for a loose wheel bearing?
On your other post in this forum Richardoutwest attached a previous post about troubleshooting and checking your steering that was quite complete. I believe it shows how to check the knuckle joints. Checking front wheel bearing tightness is pretty easy, with the front wheels off the ground and grabbing the tire at the 12 and 6:00 position try and rock the tire back and forth and there should be no play or at least very little.

Alabama,

That casting #76 Saginaw box is the box of choice. They also call that a Saginaw #800. Originally built around 1964 / 1992 Great HD box totally rebuildible it should have the 4 bolt mount & a 70mm piston.
The key here is what ratio is that box? A varible ratio is what you want and should be 13-16 ratio Basically the 16 is the slow portion in the middle and the 13 is out towards the edges. Also most people don't understand but if you loss engine power after 1/2 degree of movement the box engages the mechanical dogs, now you will still be pushing fluid and it will not be easy but it will still steer.
Find someone around the area that has the ability to rebuilt it and make sure it has the varible ratio. I use Tom Lee in So Cal for my steering.

ok, thanks. i have checjed that and there is no play in either tire. and i have followed that thread multipl times and i has helped some but he only remaining thing that still has slack seems to be the steering box, it just doesnt make sensse

Alabama,
You need to start checking things off your list, I'm sure you've checked all the obvious. Springs, shackles & bushings, upper& lower spindle bearings, drag link & tie road ends, wheel bearings, shocks you get the picture.........once you get there then maybe its the not so obvious that you start to look at. Your sterring gear you think is loose but is there still a part downstream that may be the problem? How is your rear axle is it tracking straight? look at the tire tread patterns , and for that matter I would even consider rotating the tires side to side.Trouble shooting problems is not easy, but you have to take one part at a time.
