I searched and really couldn't find anything.

I want to wire in a push start, but using the stock wiring.

Was wondering if anyone has done this already. Basically take the plugs out of the back of the ignition switch and wire them into switches. A 3 way switch for "on / off / acc" and a push button for "ignition".

Anyone know what wires I should run to each spot?

I put a similar ignition switch (Off-Run)/starter button setup in my 73 CJ5 , works well and is easy to wire. Also have a dash mounted ignition switch (Acc-Off-Run-Start) in the Scrambler that I recently built. On both, I worked from scratch and it was really easy. Let me take a look at the your stock switch wiring diagram and get back to you.

I appreciate it. I have the several different red guard switches, as well as a momentary push button. I have spent the last hour staring at it. :(

Okay, couldn't read the 81 CJ wiring diagram, too small even with the wife's reading glasses so had to go off of a '79 diagram. See attached pdf file.

Thats pretty cool :chug:

I agree. Also thanks! I'll let you know how it works out. :chug:

Hope that it works fine. If you have extra wires on those plugs that I don't have listed, let me know and we can figure out together.

Ran into a hardware issue. Ran out of terminals. Had to get some. Also didn't think of it but I am switching over to 1 wire HEI from the MSD garbage that is in it now. Guess I should be doing that the same time I wire this. :wtf:

Makes it kinda easier as far as I can guess. Ill let you know how it comes.

I have it running in current configuration (MSD). Now to switch it over to HEI and keep it that way!

Glad it worked for you. I have HEI also and the one wire is pretty damn simple to hook up - that single wire from the Run pole of the ignition switch that was energizing your MDS now goes directly to the distributor.

Got it running! After a couple hours of ruining my own day for no reason haha.
Now to get it timed. Which involves fighting against short plug wires. Going to go to the store tomorrow and get my self the right plug wires.

Thanks again for the help. Was super simple, don't know why more people dont run this way.

Cool. I agree, simple and straight forward.

InfidelOffroad,
I am having an issue on which wires to splice into the push button starter. Any help? Which ones did you end up wiring them to?

I purchased one off Amazon (Amazon.com: Exlight Blue LED Background Light Engine Ignition Push Start Button Starter Kit: Automotive). The seller mentioned easy instructions but I can't seem to figure out which wires to run them too.

The instructions read...
Connect red wire to terminal 15 (the power), black wire to Ground, blue wires to terminal 15 (IGN) and terminal 50

I get the ground, but the rest is a mystery to me.

Any help?
