1980 CJ7, 258, TH400 W/quadratrac, converted from unknown manual 4 spd and TC by PO. No manual hubs
Still learning as I go, I know I need to learn what gears I have in the front and rear axles, how do I do that? I am planning on replacing the Q-trac TC with a Dana 18 to avoid a rear axle swap out. I believe the rear drive shaft will also need to be shortened to make it all fit nice behind the Novak Adapters kits, now the front axle, I have to replace the auto hubs with manual ones obviously, do I also need to replace the axle shafts to marry up to the manual hubs or are they the same for Auto or Manual hubs?
Still learning my CJ, and it has been changed out from the Transmission back so not sure of anything at this point. Thanks for all the help and hope someday to contribute instead of suck up all the information.

:ww: Bud!

Here's a few ways of checking the gear ratio's: http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f99/how-determine-your-gear-ratio-10217/

I believe you can keep your same axles. You can double check the spline count to be sure the kit you buy will be right. I like these: Warn 9062 - Warn Premium Manual Hubs - Overview - SummitRacing.com

You may find them cheaper elsewhere, and there are cheaper options out there, but i love how easy my Warn's lock and unlock. I've seen other brands get stuck in where we've spent 5-10 min trying to roll and get them unlocked. Especially important in the snow (cold fingers!)

You'll get there bud! Along the right track man.

Hey jhowe32,

Was wondering what is wrong with the original Q trac and auto tranny...

Interested in selling either?

Wish I could help with your questions, but I've kept my Qtrac and GM Turbo 400 through the years..

good luck...
